The Journal of African American History (JAAH) is planning an upcoming Special Issue devoted to “New Research on African American History.” The Special Issue will consist of papers presented at the ASALH Annual Convention in Buffalo, NY, October 5-9, 2005, and submitted for consideration for publication in the JAAH.

Graduate students or individuals who have received the Ph.D. within five years and present papers at the ASALH annual convention will be eligible for inclusion in the Special Issue. Manuscripts submitted for publication will be peer-reviewed. The purpose of the Special Issue is to encourage graduate students and other young scholars to participate in the expanding activities and publications sponsored by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

The theme for the ASALH convention in 2005 is “The Niagara Movement: Black Protest Reborn, 1905-2005.” In addition, the conveners welcome papers on all topics related to the history of peoples of African descent in North and South America, Africa, and throughout the Diaspora.
